Rawls is a vocal proponent of needs based justice and expands this idea into his theory of justice as fairness. In his opinion, everyone is born on an uneven playing field. Therefore justice should be used as a tool to make it fair and even. He endorses the argument that every inequalities that exist in a social system should favor the least advantaged, hence leveling the playing field for everyone. Nozick, on the other hand, refutes Rawls’s argument by saying that we can’t and should not attempt to level this naturally uneven playing field. According to him, each and every one of us is entitled to what we have or given, provided we did not steal them. Hence a gifted basketball player is entitled to being treated better than common joes.
